paycheck
A game made in collaboration by students Catie Sullivan, Zoey Laytart, Ellen Kim, Thea Gamez, and eden hou at UCSC for the ARTG 143 course: "Ecofutures", taken Winter 2022 with micha cárdenas.
We have All We Can Save (Johnson, Ayana Elizabeth and Katherine K. Wilkinson, editors, 2020) and The Arts of Living on a Damaged Planet (Gan, Elaine, et al., editors, 2017) to thank for key concepts and themes throughout, as well as Redshift and Portalmetal by micha cárdenas and An Earth Being Platform by Macarena Gómez-Barris for inspiring and providing a springboard for this work.
paycheck is about community, climate change, and the impacts of inaccessibility and wealth disparity felt especially strongly by the former as the latter becomes more and more significant in our world day by day. It seeks to answer and further ask the questions Gómez-Barris poses in her letter: How the fuck do we move forward? How to feel our solidarity with you (Earth)? How do we stand with each other on your behalf?
